Nurturing Nature Exhibition
Presented in partnership with Arts Etobicoke, QuadReal Property Group, Cloverdale and the The Throbbing Rose Collective, Nurturing Nature is a group exhibition exploring the parallels between biodiversity within natural ecosystems and diversity within LGBTQ+ communities.
For generations, queerness has been framed by dominant culture as something “against nature,” despite the natural world offering countless examples of variation, adaptation, fluidity, cooperation, and nonbinary existence. Across ecosystems, diversity is not a flaw in the system but one of its greatest strengths. Healthy forests, coral reefs, wetlands, and pollinator networks all rely on interdependence and variation in order to survive and evolve.
This exhibition invites artists to consider how queer experiences intersect with ecology, biology, resilience, coexistence, kinship, transformation, and environmental imagination. At a time when both ecological systems and vulnerable communities face increasing pressure, Nurturing Nature asks what becomes possible when difference is understood not as a threat, but as a condition for collective flourishing.
Curated by SweetThings and Ana Palacios from Arts Etobicoke.
