Arts Etobicoke: The Art of Making Joyful Art – Spring Awakens
This eight-week course is designed to nurture both your technical skills and your creative mindset. Each week’s course starts with fun and accessible drawing exercises, where you’ll ease into the practice of observing and expressing—without judgment—while discovering how each of us brings a unique perspective to art.
A key focus will be on understanding value, a fundamental element in art-making. Each week, Arts Etobicoke will have you explore value studies inspired by artists such as Etel Adnan, Wassily Kandinsky, Johannes Itten, and Victor Vasarely. You’ll learn to create thumbnail sketches and black-and-white doodles to spark your creativity.
Artist and instructor Darlene Kulig will also share her own works-in-progress to demonstrate her step-by-step process. Each session will include time to develop a painting—whether from your reference, a famous artwork, or by adapting Darlene’s style.
Note: You’ll work in a welcoming, supportive environment where creativity, learning, and sharing are encouraged. Constructive feedback will be part of the journey to help you grow as an artist.
