Arts Etobicoke: Stitch, Sew & Sustain with Sultana Usmani
Arts Etobicoke had guests threading creativity and sustainability together in the workshop: Stitch, Sew & Sustain.
For six Saturdays, participants dove into the art of mending, altering, and embellishing fabric using techniques like hand-stitching, embroidery, and machine sewing with guidance from Sultana Usmani.
Most materials were provided, but participants were encouraged to bring:
- Fabric scraps with sentimental value
- Clothing in need of mending
- Household textiles ready for a refresh
A sewing machine was available on-site, and participants were welcome to bring their own tools and ideas to contribute to this collaborative, creative space. The goal of the workshop was to extend the life of our textiles, reduce waste, and celebrate personal expression through fiber arts—together.
