Arts Etobicoke: ROM South Asian History Workshop  |  Tea: Chai

From its ancient roots in China to the comforting cup of chai on your breakfast table—how did tea become a global staple?

Get together with Arts Etobicoke, for a thought-provoking workshop exploring the rich history and cultural journey of tea, with a special focus on its transformation during British colonial rule in South Asia—the final workshop of the ROM South Asian History Workshop Series, led by the ROM Coordinator of South Asian Community Engagement.

They’ll delve into how tea shaped—and was shaped by—social rituals, labour systems, and class distinctions. The session includes a hands-on look at ceramic objects from the coordinator’s personal collection, featuring a stoneware mug and both modern and 19th-century porcelain pieces.

Date: Thursday, August 7, 2025
Time: 2 to 3 pm
Venue: Cloverdale Common
